Women don’t know anything.

I’m not one to generalise, but women don’t know how to take care of themselves, and that is the bitter truth. Before you start protesting or disagreeing, I’ll tell you why.

Why do women use pads and tampons for periods when there are better options? You’re probably wondering what the better options are, and some might even think it’s a menstrual cup or menstrual diaper, or period pants. If these are your thoughts, then you are very wrong, and that also proves my point. And no, you can’t free-bleed because the period is not clean and you’re just gonna be smelly.

Call me crazy, but none of these period care products are good for you. And I’ll explain why.

When you use pads or tampons and you trash them, the waste management carries the trash to the dump site and burns it. The process of burning your trash affects you as a woman. You probably don’t know this, but it’s the truth. This process causes internal heat for you because the blood burning is from your inner body, and it can cause issues like fibroids or infertility. The best way to prevent this is to use cotton wool or foam for your period. You can flush cotton wool and wash the foam. And if you have to use pads, make sure you wash them before throwing them.

Now, that was what the woman inside the Oshodi bus I boarded last week said to all of us, and I promise you, my rage has not been baited like that in the last two years since I first encountered her. After pondering all she said, I decided to come and rage-bait y’all by telling you what she said. In this post, I’ll list out everything she said and what I think about it.

First, how did she start?

Mama started by praying. I even thought she wanted to preach the gospel, so I reduced the volume of my earbuds - I almost paused my music, damn, so I could listen. After the prayer, she started off saying that this world has spoiled, and I completely agree ’cause look around you, my dear; is the cost of living not spoiling the world?

At this point, I was expecting her to say the generic things about how people now dress, party, live life, and all the other stuff they tell you, but she surprised me and didn’t say any of that stuff. She went ahead and said something very graphic (it’s graphic because I visualise words when people say them). It might not be graphic to you, but reader’s discretion is advised.

“When we were kids, we used to go take a dump on a refuse dump and wipe our bums with corn cobs.” She said.

I don’t know who the ‘we’ is, but I guess I sure as hell know that I’m not part of them.

When I heard this line, I remembered her from two years ago. Although I was still struggling to figure out if she was the one who said people should stop eating Ponmo because Ponmo is not made from cowskin but trailer tyres - I later found out that was another woman entirely.

At this point, I started wondering where the whole atotonu was going. She continued and said, “As a woman, why are you having discharge that is not your period? The only discharge you should have is your period.”

Just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with having vaginal discharge as a woman. In fact, it is very normal. In case you are new to Earth and you don’t know what vaginal discharge is, vaginal discharge is a clear, white, or off-white fluid that comes from your vagina. It’s made of cells and bacteria. Discharge helps keep your vagina clean and healthy. It also helps protect against infection. Vaginal discharge is natural and normal. Changes in its color, texture, smell, or amount could mean something is wrong (Cleveland Clinic, 2026)

She termed vaginal discharge as bad and said women are meant to be dry all the time. She proceeded to insinuate that vaginal discharge is caused by premarital sex, birth control, abortions, and so on. She said that the world has gone bad because women now stop menstruating early; that back in those days, women stopped menstruating at age 65 and they didn’t start menstruating until they were 18. She said this is because we - children of nowadays - drink drinks like Pepsi and Coke instead of Fanta. She said we eat food like wheat, which is wrong because wheat is strictly pig food.

Menarche is the medical term for a girl’s first menstrual period. If a girl starts her period early (typically before age 9 or 10), it is referred to as early menarche.

Menarche is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Approximately half of the variation in menarcheal age across developing countries may be attributable to genetic and heritable factors. The age at menarche is similar in mother and daughter, supporting a genetic influence on menarcheal age (Lee, para 2, 2020).

While environmental factors like nutrition, to name a few, can influence early menarche, drinking Pepsi or Coke is not the sole cause of early menarche.

She also proceeded to tell the men on the bus not to have sex with their women while they are on their periods because it can lead to them having prostate cancer!

According to Watson (2024) for Healthline, the biggest downside to having sex during your period is the mess. Blood can get on you, your partners, and the sheets, especially if you have a heavy flow. Another downside is the risk of pregnancy, contracting STIs, and increased vulnerability to PH infections. Menstruation changes vaginal pH levels, which can make you more susceptible to bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections. (Chisolm, 2026). However, a person’s menstrual cycle can be shorter than 28 days, and people may ovulate sooner than 14 days post-menstruation. Sperm can also live inside a body for up to 5 days. Although it is very rare, a confluence of these factors can mean that sex during menstruation can lead to pregnancy, although it is incredibly rare (Smith, 2026)

Firstly, it is totally okay to have period sex. There is absolutely no scientific or medical link between having sexual contact with menstrual blood and the development of prostate cancer (Mayo Clinic, 2022). Medical research from institutions like the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Cleveland Clinic shows that frequent sexual activity and ejaculation (whether through intercourse or masturbation) may actually lower a person’s risk of developing prostate cancer. Also, there are several medical benefits to period sex.

Now, I thought she was done with all this rubbish she was saying, but no, she went further to say that women should only drink bitter things on their periods so they can be clean. Firstly, people need to stop spreading the narrative that the period is dirty; it is not. Secondly, people also need to end the narrative that something has to be bitter to be effective.

She said women need to stop having sex after menopause, as it can affect both men and women engaging in such activities. She also said that it is bad to queef while having sex because queefing is a symptom of fibroids.

It is not bad to have sex after menopause. In fact, medical experts from major institutions like the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic agree that maintaining a healthy sex life after menopause is safe, common, and highly beneficial for both physical health and emotional intimacy. It preserves vaginal health, strengthens the pelvic floor, and reduces stress (Shaheen, 2026). While there are potential challenges like lower libido, vaginal dryness, and increased risk of STIs, there are no life-threatening issues.

Queefing is just vaginal gas, noise, or wind. It’s sometimes called vaginal flatulence. Queefing is the sound trapped air makes when it comes out of your vagina. Usually, queefing is normal and harmless. You’ll only need a doctor if you get other, more serious symptoms. (Worth, 2025)

Finally, she said all women are meant to have a flat tummy, especially when you’ve not had a child. She body-shamed fat women and slim girls who have a fat tummy. That pissed me off so badly, I almost stood up and gave her a dirty slap. But I couldn’t. Everyone has freedom of speech, plus she’s way older than me. She looks like she’s in her fifties.

Now, the crazy thing is, the message from two years ago was the same message she shared a week ago. And it worries me how many people she would have told these lies to for the past two years, every blessed day. The crazier part is, people on the bus believed her. Because when she brought out the drugs she wanted to sell to them to solve all these problems, every single woman - except me, obviously - bought them. She sold one bottle for 1k, and they bought in 2s, 3s, and 4s. Even the men bought for their wives. The craziest part is, she made all these medications herself. These medications have no NAFDAC number on them. She said she sells in Abeokuta, Isheri, and a bunch of other places.

Maybe I should have bought one so I can attach the picture to this post. Hopefully I see her again. When I see her, I’ll buy the medication and come show you guys. This is me using my hard-earned money to help my fellow women. Women supporting women, right?

As someone who barely and rarely goes out, I tend to encounter crazy scenarios on days I decide to go out. My overall take on this is that it breaks my heart to have heard a fellow woman say all these things and lead other women astray. It is quite unfortunate. We need to educate ourselves intentionally and try as much as possible to stop all these demonic lies from spreading.

Our period is not dirty. It’s okay to have a tummy that is not flat, as long as your tummy is proportional to your body and you are healthy; you are absolutely fine. Vaginal discharge is completely normal. Period sex is safe for both men and women. Sex after menopause is also very okay. And you can use pads, tampons, a menstrual cup, menstrual diapers, and menstrual pants during your period. Do not flush them. Dispose of them properly. And maintain good hygiene.
